Planning Center
Churches use our tools to communicate and connect with their congregations, organize information, and coordinate events. We’re obsessed with building great products that solve real problems - We love our people, we love our products, and we love our churches!
Planning Center profile
Planning Center launched in 2006 and has grown to support over 70,000 churches around the world. We are independently owned with no outside investors, no debt, and no sales team.Â
We love our team. It’s one of the pillars we work off of every day, which is why we take care of you as best we can — and we are looking for committed and humble individuals who are motivated by a desire to do excellent work.
How do you maintain flexibility & balance for your team?
We care about the health, well-being, and personal development of our employees and their families. As a fully remote team, we provide all our team members with the flexibility to work wherever they’re most comfortable — and it’s important to us that all team members have the time they need to rest and recharge. Here are just a few ways we make that happen:Â
- Paid Fridays off in the summer (June-Aug), and every other Friday off the rest of the year so you can spend extra time with family and friends
- A paid week off between Christmas and New Years
- 2 weeks of paid vacation per year (increasing to three over time)
- A month-long sabbatical every 5 years
- Generous paid sick time + a $200 a month stipend for physical fitness and mental health
How do you ensure autonomy and plan for the future?
We’re a remote company of 130+ people that rely on tools like GitHub, Slack, Notion, and Zoom. We value asynchronous work while also encouraging pairing to shape work and tackle problems together.
Many voices often contribute to the greater picture, weighing in and pushing the team forward with solutions when entering technical or people-based work.Â
We regularly leverage surveyed feedback and listen to our staff concerning large issues or company-wide changes.Â
How does your company try to hire people from underrepresented groups and improve the diversity of your team?
Planning Center is growing in this area.Â
From a hiring standpoint, we use a variety of job boards tailored for BIPOC communities for every job we post. We try to have real conversations about current and potential issues we see concerning our own biases and hiring practices.Â
We're actively seeking new approaches to hiring that will broaden our candidate pools to include more diversity.Â
We also engage those communities within our four walls, asking questions and highlighting BIPOC groups through Heritage Months.
How do you support your team to grow and improve?
Many teams and individuals have 1:1s every week. These meetings allow managers and ICs to carve out growth plans and opportunities to contribute and lean into other skills.
Employees are encouraged to use their self-development budgets for books, online courses, conferences, and other training materials.
Team Summits often leverage known speakers within the industry to help departments improve team dynamics and disciplines. A few we've invited in the past have been Leslie O'Flahavan, Sandi Metz, and Claire Lew.

We’re a fully remote team, but we also believe in the power of in-person connections. That’s why we gather at our main offices in Carlsbad, CA, four times a year to connect face-to-face and foster better working relationships. During "remote weeks," the kitchen is fully stocked with snacks and coffee, but most importantly, Sour Patch Kids.Â
