How do you maintain flexibility & balance for your team?
We proudly offer unlimited paid-time off and company-wide "power downs" where we ask people to collectively take the day off. We'll never ask you to work weekends. We also encourage all team members to turn off notifications (seriously!) whenever they are away from their computers. We also work asynchronously to allow for a flexible work schedule that's free of micromanagement and full of autonomy.
How do you ensure autonomy and plan for the future?
We have a few team leads, but for the most part, try to be very flat and collaborative. Our co-founders pass the mic whenever possible to ensure that different voices from different levels are being heard. We have planning meetings to focus on the future of our company and get various people involved. We have company wide meetings to brainstorm and talk about the future of the company together.
How does your company try to hire people from underrepresented groups and improve the diversity of your team?
We've made DEI&B a priority from the beginning. Our hiring lead also has a background in DEI&B work and a proven track record.
We seek job boards that are remote and target groups from different genders, socioeconomic backgrounds, and education levels. For example, women in STEM. We have a hiring committee from people across different silos and levels to ensure that different people are reviewing applications, we ensure that the same questions are being asked, and that applicants are evaluated against the same criteria. We don't ask for application photos to be included. We focus on expertise and skills, rather than education level.

How do you support your team to grow and improve?
Team members work with their team leads to put together a professional development plan twice a year. We did not think annual was frequent enough. We make this a company wide priority and regularly send out PD opportunities for team members, encouraging them to attend workshops, conferences, and classes.
