Calibre is an intentionally small company building a web performance platform to help teams create faster, more equitable internet.

Calibre profile

How do you maintain flexibility & balance for your team?

We’re a fully remote company with no fixed offices. We work to live, not live to work, so we show up four days a week (at 32 hours maximum) and encourage everyone to tailor their workday to their life, not the other way around. We don’t measure productivity by the number of hours worked. We have a generous leave policy and make sure our teammates take the time to rest.

How do you ensure autonomy and plan for the future?

We trust everyone to work independently. We value flexibility, deep work and written communication—asynchronous work is our preference. We’re light on meetings, too, so everyone can focus on what they do best. While the founders set the top-level direction for the business and product, we default to working in the open and regularly discuss upcoming work and review our goals as a team.

How does your company try to hire people from underrepresented groups and improve the diversity of your team?

It’s critical to us to create a safe and supportive place to work where everyone is welcome. We might be only a couple of people, but we are committed to DEI&B in all aspects of what we do. We have guidelines on using inclusive language, created a thorough hiring process focusing on removing unconscious bias, and actively seek candidates from underrepresented backgrounds. As we grow, we expect to implement more policies and initiatives in this area.

How do you support your team to grow and improve?

We have a yearly allowance of A$1500 that everyone can use for professional development (attending events, taking courses, or buying books). We strongly believe no organisation is too small for management, and creating processes to share feedback (both ways!) is critical to employee happiness. That’s why we set goals, track progress and hear everyone’s input through regular 1:1s.
