How do you ensure autonomy and plan for the future?

We are a very results-focused organization and provide a lot of autonomy to our teammates to achieve those goals. Our leaders set the company-wide objectives and key results (OKRs) and the area managers then set the department-level OKRs, which keeps us working in the same direction. We default to asynchronous communication due to the nature of working across more than 13 timezones (but utilize synchronous chats when needed.)

How does your company try to hire people from underrepresented groups and improve the diversity of your team?

We are committed as a company to invest in diversity and inclusion and have implemented steps within the hiring process (using interview scorecards, etc) and in the broader company to remove unconscious bias. We are actively seeking applications from underrepresented groups and promoting on job boards that reach diverse backgrounds and individuals.

How do you support your team to grow and improve?

Personal growth (both within Buffer or reaching a role outside of Buffer) is important to us all, and part of our values. We provide a $1,000 USD stipend annually to all teammates for conferences, classes, coaching, certifications, or more.
