How do you maintain flexibility & balance for your team?
At Boldly, our company has been completely remote from day one, and we've never contemplated moving in-office. A lot of our team works part-time and we allow our team the ability to set their own hours (within general business hours).
Flexibility means giving people the ability to work when and however they work best. At Boldly, we measure our team's success in performance and results, and not how many hours they are 'online'. We believe that if people have the flexibility and autonomy they need to thrive, they can really achieve incredible things.
How do you ensure autonomy and plan for the future?
Once our team members join Boldly and begin working with our clients, it's up to them and their clients how they structure their days. They are able to set up a schedule that works best for their needs and their client's needs.
Boldly's Team Leaders provide an ongoing shoulder to lean on and mentorship, in a way that is supportive but not restrictive. Our team can also discuss with them any future needs, client projects or industries they'd be interested in, and their workload. We really put the power into our team members' hands as far as who'd they'd like to work with, when they work, and how they work, and it's built us an incredible culture of trust and respect.
How does your company try to hire people from underrepresented groups and improve the diversity of your team?
We believe in equal employment for all and work diligently to ensure decisions are made without prejudice. Our hiring process is based on a written process and documented criteria that removes unconscious bias from our screening and selection process by focusing on skill and experience. As a woman owned business, we are familiar with the challenges women face in the workplace and it is important to us that we maintain an equitable workplace. Our team works to seek out minority groups by connecting with them in various ways such as focused partnerships and social media groups. We work with diverse groups such as military spouses, working mothers, caregivers, and those with unique life situations where working remotely is not just a nice to have but a need.
How do you support your team to grow and improve?
As mentioned above, Boldly has an organizational structure that inherently supports our team's growth. We have a group of Team Leaders whose sole job is to support our team members, helping them with anything they need to succeed, encouraging them, and mentoring them. On top of this, we also always promote from within.
We recently surveyed our entire team in conjunction with our Great Place to Work certification and we were surprised to see that work flexibility and the ability to work remote were actually not the top reasons that our team members enjoyed working at Boldly - it was the continual learning that they found most fulfilling! Because our team works with a variety of successful clients at one time, they are constantly being introduced to new industries, new tools, new processes, and new ways of doing things. It helps keep the day to day interesting and fresh for our team and gives them a very rounded experience.
