How do you maintain flexibility & balance for your team?

We support flexible working location and working hours. We encourage people to find a working schedule that fits in with them whilst agreeing a core set of standard working hours when they can be contacted if need be. We strongly discourage overtime.

How do you ensure autonomy and plan for the future?

We try to offer flexibility within an agreed set of parameters so that expectations are clear for all sides. This is why, for example, each person agrees standard working hours with their manager. This is generally a sub set of their normal work hours. During standard working hours you are expected to check slack once a day, email every few hours (especially if customer facing) and reply to chat messages within 15–20 minutes.

We try to gather everyone’s opinions and input on decisions. We get a lot of inspiration from the suggestions and discussions happening across the company via our ideas channel in slack. Direction comes from the executives and leaders. Solutions are collaborative and agreed with the teams.

Long-Term Planning

How do you support your team to grow and improve?

As a relatively fast growing company we have had plenty of opportunities for people to level up and their ability to manage new challenges has been critical to our success. We’ve had feedback that this could be more structured, especially for folks who are early in their career.

To create better discussions and planning on growth opportunities we are rolling out a competency framework. This has core competencies which are company wide as well as defined competencies for each individual role. It’s still early days but we are hopeful this will give us a structured way for people to identify their strengths and growth areas. And, along with their manager, create plans of what to focus on.
